Imagination comes from all sources and this piece has a special place in my heart as I watched a little girl of mine, color away many years ago. I was never able to get it to print until now. I am excited because this piece has many different meanings for me.

This print will debut at the Phoenix comic con and will go on sale after memorial day weekend with Issue 5 which goes to press today.

Issue 6 update - I am at page 15 pencils and it is flowing well.

Issue 7 update - yes there is an issue 7 update. I started scripting last night. I added a whole new section which fills a whole I think the books created. I am really jazzed with where it is all going.

The Bean 113 is up and we will be done with issue 3 by thursday with our updates. Which means we start updating issue 4 on monday:) I am so jazzed.

Issue 5 goes to press mid week! Which is a big step for me and I am starting the artwork on Issue 6 today.

Everything seems to be flowing.

As you can tell, in-between books I go a little nuts on my b/w pieces. I use them to learn and develop my trade. Everyone needs to practice.

Some of my pieces are a little more involved as well. Like the one on the right. I have a salt water tank at home and I wondered what it would be like to keep a mermaid in there. How big, filtration system, etc.

So I set one up. Now personally I would have made the tank a little bigger, I do hate seeing animals in enclosures far too small, yet I did make sure the protein skimmer was there as well as a nice filtration system on the right.

Now before you set up your mermaid tank make sure you have your parents permission and the space needed to take care of them. Cleaning can be a bear at times, but honestly no one likes a dirty tanks.

Issue 5 Cover

As promised here is the cover to issue 5 (some spoilers for those following the web, yet if you bought the 4th book you might have an idea on what is going on:) I am at the beginning stages of the piece right now, giving it it's color treatment and trying to set the right mood. Music plays a big part in this process as I come up with the color profile. It puts me in the right vibe.

Also last night, I finished the interior to issue 5. All text, balloons and sound effects have been added and it is in edits. I cannot believe how well it came off. Plus I am starting issue 6 prob next week. I feel really inspired right now and I am so pleased how will the story is coming together.

Issue 5 goes to press on the 17 and should be on sale May 29th cross your fingers:)

Well guys last night I finished all the interior art to issue 5 and in fact I am halfway done with the cover, which i should finish this evening.

Today is scanning day. 40 pages to prep and upload this evening. Its gonna be fun. I am looking forward to finishing this baby off.

Now that the interior art is done i can focus a little more of more inks, I should be posting those soon as well.

Wondercon update

Wondercon Update Friday April 2

Well sitting in the exhibitor lounge and waiting for the show to open on day 2. It’s a quiet moment which allows me to give and update on day 1 of the show.

Friday is really on a half day. It’s a looking day and yet we still were really busy. Actually finally got a counter for the sketches which should be interesting. Current FREE sketch count is 142. Plus I was able to put out 4 new custom inks. The custom inks are moving as well and I will mark which inks sold prob on tuesday of next week.

Highlights and rumors and facts!

First off: We heard and confirmed STAN LEE is going to the Phoenix Comic Con in May! That is so cool. That show is getting better and better.

2nd: We are right next to Steam Crow and have a corner booth this year which keeps us really busy.

3rd: ISSUE 4 debuted yesterday and has been received really well. Very excited about the response we are getting over the comics these days. It’s been a good show.

4th: We had a really late night last night, not because we were out partying but because Jim’s flight got delayed and we had to wait at SFO for a few hours for him to get in. I was able to knock out several great games of phone risk before he arrived, hence my phone being a little dead this morning. Don’t worry babe I’m recharging it.

Forgot the camera so we snap a few phone pics. Hopefully I will be able to walk around a bit and see some of the great stuff that is out there. Even though I am being pressured to finishing the phoenix print.

Well off to a small nap – more events to come as well as the sketch count for tomorrow. The show doors open at 10 so if you are in San Fran and have nothing to do. Just come on over and say hi at booth 514 and get your free sketch and maybe pic up a comic or two.

Page 85, though if you want the truth I just finished the midway point of book 4 so I am on really on page 132.

The story is flowing pretty smooth and I have hit a few milestones which I am excited about. The main one is the fact I got farther than 2 issues which is a first, though i have no desire to jinx this now.

Things are moving back normal. Which I am thankful for, thanks guys for being here.

First off thanks for the supporting words. Some of you might know that there is a lot going on in my life and sometimes i feel like ravna. (not the flowing skirt bit, though it might be nice) but trudging through the mud, while the world laughs. I am getting through it, My wife is a huge support and I sure appreciate that the test we have in life are to make us stronger.

After coming to terms that book 3 is not possible due to a variety of reasons, I came to the realization that I had to finish the story. So I am returning to my roots and returning the tale of the bean to a comic book. It started as such and since the books are an adaptation of the books and wonderfully done, Aimee and I will continue to do them, just with the notion they will print in the future.

AS for comics, there are many doors opened that were closed, when I started this 10 years ago and so we return to it's magic in an illustrated form. From our intro to the inn to where ever it goes.

As my appreciation for all those that have read the books, I will be posting this comic for free and though it will be eventually bound in book format, I felt I owed to those that support me.

Sailing away on an adventure...

It has been a bit, yes, it seems to be the story of my life. I must apologize for the story change, I found that I needed a breath of fresh air these days and a little lighter spirit. So I needed to create a lighter tale.

You see I found a map and a crew that needed a place to go. After some haggling we packed up ship and sailed off.... and this is where we went.

The Wishing Well and my health

This is my newest piece, called "the Wishing Well". I've have always wondered were the coins go that are dropped in the well. It will be available for sale in April.

Now for my health.

I have a herniated disc in my back. It's been rough, only 37 and I use a cane... Though I have felt sorry for myself I have realized that I cannot stop myself from illustrating - I hope to have more art soon- I am also working on strengthening my back. I am terrified of loosing all mobility in my lower back so I am doing what the doctor tells me and take my medicine and stretch a bit. Though this has been a real test of my faith as I have not been able to help around the house and play with my kids. At least their imaginations keep me going and the wonderful back rubs from my wife.

The arizona Con was a blast and we will be back there next year. They are fantastic people at that show and I ended up sketching about 600 free sketches. Our next show is wondercon in san francisco.

Adventures come in all shapes and sizes. As I sat talking to my son about dinos and thinking about dragons, a spark of inspiration attacked me. What a better conflict for a courageous young man atop his noble steed, battling a dreaded ice dragon.

This is one of the smaller new prints that I will be offering this year at the San Diego Comic Con in July. Final size is 13x19. There are only 100 of these prints available and like all my prints once they are gone.....

I am an avid fan of creativity. I believe it is vital to our society and that one's imagination needs to be nurtured and cared for or else like with all things neglected it will eventually fade. As you will see my art is based on the power of what one's imagination can accomplish. To the child there is nothing they cannot accomplish as they adventure from one realm to the next.

So sit back and return to your childhood adventures.... where one time anything was possible.
